I didn't want to go back immediately, so I dabbled around with different button combinations for a few minutes, and got luck.I suppose there's a hint for that puzzle somewhere in the mansion, but I did not see it either.What's odd, though, is that there even is an achievement for solving this puzzle without clues. But I did not get that achievement. So the game apparently thinks that it showed me a clue, but I must have overlooked it.(Interestingly, the icon of the achievement spoils the puzzle's solution. Not sure if that's intended.).

I just never made the connection. But from the perspective of the game's programming, I've certainly received the clues.;). Answer to door is on the door itself. I stood there for a second and was like, 'huh?' I looked at it for a moment and I was like, 'oh, is it really that simple?' I then put in the answer I saw and it worked =P. The door has 3 symbols (rings) going from out to in on the little lock thing.

These 3 symbols happen to correlate with the symbols around the lock. The first symbol is the outermost symbol.Split spoilers up to give more and more levels of detail in case you want different levels of hints to figure this out =P.Maybe I'm the only one that did it this way because I did not care about the calendar, the display cases, or the paintings.
